The Persecuted – Chapter 1 + Some Short Stories

It has been a while since my last post. Too long. Hopefully with this I’ll get into the groove of things again. Kicking off a new series always feels good, though none of these have anything to do with the world of Balaria.

So here goes.

The Persecuted

The Persecuted follows Adan as he tries to survive a world that wants him dead only because he’s different from others. It is a dark tale and the main characters isn’t what you’d call a hero. Often he comes off more as a villain. Anyway, I hope you like it. I hope to post a new chapter weekly, though it might be bi-weekly. But no bigger gaps than that between chapters.

Short Stories

As a bonus here are two short stories I’ve put up on deviantart, but never got around to posting them here.

I wanted to write something with the Alien/Species movie vibe. I hope I managed to do that with The Robbery.

Link: Post Life

Post Life is a more reflective story about what comes after death. Remember to bring a paper bag with you. You might need it if you stare at the light too much 😉

Tales From Ramyn – The Street Urchin

Hello.

So I’m starting a new series. Tales From Ramyn is a collection of loosely connected short stories. The main focus is on exploring the city of Ramyn through the eyes of different characters. Some might have appeared in previous novels, but most are completely new. You don’t need to have knowledge of the world before jumping into these and you don’t really need to read these in any particular order, though doing it in the order published would be advisable.

The Street Urchin is the first in the series and introduces us to a young boy of the streets and his attempts to keep himself fed.

Updates to this series will be sporadic, but hopefully not too far between. I hope you’ll enjoy it 🙂

Solitary Children

It’s Random Short Thursday!

This had been laying on my hard drive for quite a while and I finally got around to putting the finishing touches on it. The story is about a boy called Tim who encounters a problem with his mothers behavior. He knows what he is supposed to do, but will he do it?

Hope you like it 🙂

KtLB

It’s not often, but sometimes I end up reading a news article that gives me some idea for a small piece of writing. In the case of KtLB it was this piece about an Arkansas state legislative candidate and how he thinks there’s a case for giving the parents the right to have the state kill “rebellious children”.

KtLB

It’s not exactly the greatest thing I’ve written, but I hope you find it enjoyable 🙂

The Stone and the Contest Results

Hey.

You might remember that a few months ago I posted a story called The Stone on here and mentioned it’s taking part in a contest on Deviantart. Well, the results are in on that.

Out of 59 works submitted, three were rewarded and four got a honorable mention. The Stone was among those four works that got a honorable mention. To be honest I wasn’t expecting it to do that well, but it’s always a pleasant surprise to see yourself proven wrong.

You can find the full results here: Daily Literature Deviations Summer Contest results.

Some good works there if you’re looking for some short pieces to read 🙂

The Game and Some Updates

Hello.

No new chapter this week, but I’ll give you a short Sci-Fi piece instead. It’s one of those stories that has clawed its way out of the darker corners of my mind so it has a lot of things in it; strong language, nudity, violence, gore, the usual suspects.

The story focuses on Tom, a nervous wreck of a man whose debtors are hot on his heels, wanting their money. Having scavenged an cyborg leg from a body floating in the river, he hopes to get enough money for it from an used parts shop, but things are not that simple..

As far as the next long term story goes, I now have about 27 pages of it written. Still a bit unsure about it, but feeling much better than a week ago. Starting to think it will actually work out with a bit of tweaking. Still, expect it to take at least a few more weeks before you get to see the first chapter. Meanwhile, there might be a few more short stories I’ll get to finish to keep you reading 🙂

The Voyage of Elwar Soran – Chapter 18 & Other Updates

Lots of things to say this time around. Let’s start with the traditional new Sunday chapter. That is, chapter 18 of our story. It’s the second to last one and sheds some light to the events that took place in the previous chapter. It takes the story even further away from the traditional roots of the genre, but I hope it works 🙂

As usual, new chapter has been added to the part three PDF: The Voyage of Elwar Soran – Part Three

On top of that there’s a short story I completed that has been laying around on my hard drive for months. It gives us a glimpse to the life of the Northern Barbarians that roam the plains of Balaria. It focuses on a young man called Diew and in his part in the clans traditional Midsummer Festival. I hope you find it enjoyable.

Also, a bit of an heads up that my website might be unreachable for a day or two in the nearby days or weeks. I’m changing my hosting company as the current one has become unbearably expensive compared to what you get with your money. So, if some day the website doesn’t load, don’t be alarmed. Just try again the next day 🙂

The Stone – A Short Story

The Stone is a story about two homeless men living under a bridge. One morning Sam discovers a peculiar object that ends up changing the lives of both men.

This is my entry to the Summer Contest hosted by Daily Literature Deviations on Deviantart. You can read more about the contest here. The other entries can be found here. As of this posting mine has yet to appear there as I submitted it only moments ago. It’s waiting approval. Hopefully it will appear there soon.

The Practicioner: A Short Story

Hello.

Here’s a little something I spent a few hours on during the past few days. Not sure why my short ones always seem to go on a path on the dark side of things, but I hope it still works out ok and you like. This does take place in the world of Balaria, though in a portion that isn’t on the map(yet). For now it’s a stand alone short story, but I’ve been toying with the idea of taking the premise and working it into a longer story. We’ll see if that materializes in the future.

Anyway, here’s the link: The Practicioner

Also, there’s now a Twitter link in the links section. Not sure I’ll use it that much, but we’ll see how things go. At the very least it’s one more way to follow updates about my writings.

The Success of Failure

Near the end of 2011 I entered a writing contest on Deviantart. The theme of it was ‘Hope And Despair Under Empire’. What they basically sought for were texts that displayed hope and/or despair under any sort of oppressive power, be it drugs, rule of tyranny by men or what have you. You can find the original contest announcement here.

I entered the contest with a piece titled ‘Failure’. It is a short view into the desperate life of a man who has lost just about everything in a world now ruled by aliens instead of humans. Here’s a link to it:

Failure

Anyway, the judging of the contest finished today and I received a honorary mention for a tied fourth place. 25 texts were submitted to the contest. You can find the winner announcement here. Can’t say I’m unhappy with the result. To be honest even fourth place feels pretty darn good for someone who entered a writing contest of any sort for the first time in his life.

Anyway, if you enjoy my piece I suggest reading the winning entries as well. They’re quite good 🙂
